The end of Windows 10 Mobile altogether is simply nearby, as Microsoft just killed one of the last versions from the smartphone operating-system.
The June 2019 Patch Tuesday rollout marked the last update cycle for Windows 10 Mobile version 1703 (Creators Update), so moving forward, only devices running Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 still get security updates.
"Windows 10 Mobile, version 1703, reached end of service on June 11, 2019. Devices running Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise won't receive monthly security and quality updates which contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating towards the new edition of Windows 10," Microsoft says.
Windows 10 Mobile pretty much gone already
Despite Windows 10 Mobile still being kept alive with security patches, the platform in general has been abandoned for many months already.
Microsoft recommended users to switch from Windows 10 Mobile to Android or iOS, especially as it's been working night and day to make all of its apps and services available on the two platforms.
At this point, the entire demise of Windows 10 Mobile is only a few time, as Microsoft will stop servicing version 1709, the last one still getting updates, in December 2019. Beyond this date, Windows 10 Mobile will cease to exist, and Microsoft will ultimately have the ability to leave behind what's become one of its biggest failed products.
However, considering that Windows 10 version 1709 isn't even available for a considerable part of the device base within the Windows mobile ecosystem, the platform seems obsolete anyway, especially when looking at the existing app portfolio which shrinks pretty much every day.
